Per migliorare l’immagine dei bibliotecari, occorre partire dal rafforzamento delle Associazioni bibliotecarie! questo è il risultato di una discussione avviata da IFLA con l’UNESCO sin dall’inizio degli anni ’70 e che ha portato prima alla costituzione della Round Table on Library Association Management e poi alla Sezione Library Association Management.
Per rafforzare le Associazioni Bibliotecarie, l’UNESCO alla fine degli anni ’80 ha pubblicato le linee Guida per le Associazioni Bibliotecarie che sono accessibili qui:

Continuando a concentrare i suoi sforzi per rinforzare le Associazioni bibliotecarie, IFLA ha sviluppato il Programma Building Strong Library Association, basato sull’addestramento in e-learnng delle Associazioni interessate a migliorare se stesse e l’immagine dei bibliotecari, che potete accedere qui: http://www.ifla.org/about-bsla.
Sono sei le nazioni in cui il Programma BSLA di IFLA è stato utilizzato e sono stati diffusi i risultati e l’impatto che il programma ha avuto nelle Associazioni bibliotecarie, i suoi membri e la società che usufruisce dei servizi bibliotecari. L’impatto è stato evidente e misurabile!
Il materiale nella piattaforma e-learning prodotto da IFLA è liberamente utilizzabile ed anche traducibile.

Module 1: The aim of this module is to provide the context for the role that library associations can play in society and what makes a successful library association.

Module 4: The aim of this module is to explore the need for library associations to build relationships with the wider community for both fundraising and developing and maintaining strategic partnerships.
Libraries on the Agenda
Module 5: This module focuses on the role of the library association and libraries in the broader society with particular reference to functions in advocating, educating and campaigning for the increased importance of libraries in the information society.
Library Statistics for Advocacy
Module 6: This module was designed by a working group of IFLA’s Statistics and Evaluation Section. Whenever we communicate with politicians, funding bodies or library stakeholders: if we want to put our libraries on the agenda, we need numbers, statistics and evidence to prove our point and underline our arguments.
Train the Trainer
Module 8: The principal aims of this module are: To introduce participants to the IFLA Building Strong Library Associations Program
Questi strumenti sono importanti per rafforzare AIB e sostenere l’azione che ha iniziato ad intraprendere di riconoscimento della professione e di promozione del ruolo sociale delle biblioteche.
Ad esempio AIB potrebbe avvantaggiarsi dei materiali di BSLA per fare un corso sull’Advocacy.
